about

The new Salmonella Dub single, World She Waits celebrates the beginning of the band's 25th birthday year in 2018. The track evolved into a collaboration with Nino Birch (lyrics/vocals) of Beat Rhythm Fashion who emerged from the Wellington music scene in the early 1980’s.

The working relationship with Nino came about after Salmonella Dub were invited by Recorded Music NZ to become recipients of the New Zealand Music Awards Legacy Award 2017. Beat Rhythm Fashion were Salmonella Dub’s choice of influential artist to perform one of their tracks live on stage at the awards in Auckland this week. Unfortunately, the live appearance was never to be as Recorded Music NZ rejected Salmonella Dub’s choice of artist to represent them, stating that the show producer had never heard of the iconic group. Beat Rhythm Fashion were deemed too obscure for the televised show demographic and the band subsequently declined to accept the award.

Nino’s World She Waits lyrics are inspired by global issues, including corporate greed, land-right injustices in Aotearoa, and the native American tribes affected by the controversial Dakota oil pipeline project.

Produced by Harry Bretherton aka Soulware and featuring Scotty Taitoko on trombone, World She Waits will be released digitally in December 2017 followed by a physical release on the band’s January 13 birthday coinciding with an anniversary show in their hometown Otautahi. This show features the return of Tiki Taane and Conan Wilcox, plus their good mates Fat Freddys Drop, Trinity Roots, Ladi6, Sunshine Soundsystem and Soulware. The track will also be released in 2018 as the 25th single in a bundle of 25 radio cuts aptly named Commercial Grates to celebrate the band’s 25 years of music mahi in Aotearoa. Many of these cuts have never been made available digitally before now

about

Salmonella Dub New Zealand

Salmonella Dub began in Otautahi Aotearoa as a 3 piece in 1992, crafting their name from bass heavy dub riddums and tongue in cheek DIY samples dropped in real time from an old guitar on off pedal hot wired to the motor of a Sharp cassette deck.
